conversations

Just 2 bits of conversation to share for the day... :)

This morning, when I was back in my bathroom getting ready for school, this is the conversation I hear floating in from the kitchen...

Daddy - I have booger.
OK - go get a kleenex.
Daddy - you have booger?
No - I don't have any boogers...
Daddy - you have booger. I get you kee-nex too. :)

Aaahh - she is so helpful. :)

After lunch, I was walking 2 2nd grade boys to their classroom across the street (yes - we have a classroom across the street). It was misting, and one boy announced - "wouldn't it be funny if this rain was really like 500 people in the sky spitting on us???" Hmmm - I wasn't quite sure how to respond to that one...besides I preferred rain over spit! :)

we give thanks

We give thanks for this little angel... We had a wonderful Thanksgiving in SL with both families.

And we are also thankful for a healthy pregnancy that will be over soon...and although we haven't met him/her yet, we are SO thankful to be chosen as parents again and CANNOT wait to meet our new little blessing.

I give thanks for my husband as well... He is a wonderful man with a kind, caring heart. Everyone who calls Josh a friend is truly blessed...and he is my greatest friend of all. :)

Even though sometimes it may not feel like it...I am thankful for these little hands that "help" me with EVERYTHING around the house. :) When she was gone last week for a few nights, it was oddly quiet...and I didn't really like it. Keatin "helped" me put up one of our nativity sets this morning...I let her put all the pieces out where she wanted. I believe they are already strewn across the living room. :) Poor Mary and Jesus...I think Joseph and the animals were the only ones to make it inside the manger.

Happy Thanksgiving to all our family and friends!

I am 37 weeks pregnant today...and feeling more uncomfortable all the time...but hanging in there!

keatin = gone

Keatin is gone... :( Not going to lie...I am a little sad. And I realize I am probably more emotional about this because of being prego...I just miss her, and know our days as "mommy and daughter" are numbered. She is off to Storm Lake for an "early" Thanksgiving visit. Tomorrow, she will hang out with Grandma Barber and Great-Grandma Heeren...and on Wednesday, she will be with G & G Petersen. I know she will have a blast...she was really excited...I just miss her. I was kissing her before she left tonight...and she just leaned in and gave me a big one on the lips. :) Aaahh. :)

We had a busy weekend in Ames. Friday night, Bri and Tyler spent the night on their way to Marshalltown/Cedar Falls. Saturday, my parents came into town. Mom and I got pedicures (LOVED IT) and Josh/Dad did some serious football watching...went to church and out for supper...and Bri/Tyler came back late Saturday night (after bar hopping with friends) - they needed a place to sleep. Sunday morning, Bri and Tyler got up and left...and Jen/Joey were on their way to go to the CU/ISU Men's BB Game with Josh and Dad in Des Moines. Oh - and the doorbell rang and there stood Grandpa Barber...he was driving back to SL from the Quad Cities. He stopped for 15 minutes, and then was on his way back to work at the hospital. Jen and Joey showed up a bit later. 4 were off to the BB game, Mom went shopping, Keatin napped, and I did some school work! Whew! Oh - and Jen/Joey spent the night Sunday night, and stayed home with Keatin this morning just to play...and then took her to day care mid-morning in a swim diaper (apparently, Joey asked her which diapers/pullups mommy uses and she somehow pointed to the swim diapers that were shoved way up in the corner of her closet...seriously, would have liked to see that exchange). :) However, this did give our babysitter a really good chuckle...and me too. :)

Here is a picture I took of myself tonight - 36 weeks. The c-section is 3 weeks from today...actually, I will already have a baby by this point 3 weeks from now - AAHH! I have really been feeling/thinking/picturing a little boy the last couple weeks...not sure why, just the way it is... :) I go to the doctor on Wednesday...

Oh - and been meaning to invite everyone in all your "free" time...check out my counseling webpage at school. I have been working hard at keeping it updated - I might even create a school counseling blog at some point...we will see how much free time I have. :)

seriously????

I just pulled a load of laundry out of our dryer...threw the clothes outside of our laundry room door...came back around the corner, and look where the "queen" of our house had plopped herself... Seriously Crimson??? The CLEAN laundry??? Urgh. :)

Keatin woke up yesterday morning complaining that her ear hurt. After a trip to the doctor's office, she indeed has an ear infection. I hope this isn't an indication of how our winter is going to go...

requested

Because a few people have requested (OK - more like demanded) a new picture of my "baby belly" - here I am today...34.5 weeks along. It is big. :)

Was just at the doctor's yesterday...everything looks good, nothing exciting to report (besides I hadn't gained any weight in 2 weeks, which for a VERY pregnant lady, is AWESOME news). We are under 5 weeks to go...December 13th is the magical day (as of now). :) That means I only have 394 things to do before then... :)

ISU vs. Nebraska

ISU is currently hanging close to Nebraska...the game isn't over yet. Let's go Cyclones! Keatin and I are back at the house, and she just woke up from her nap...on the floor...not in her bed...urgh...

Anyways, we did go tailgating with the rest of the crew earlier...I anticipate they will be coming home sometime soon. Here are some pics of Keatin...once she warmed up to the chaos of the tailgating lot, she LOVED it! It was a bit chilly...but really couldn't have asked for a better day to tailgate in November!

Is this thing a slide????

(No - she is not asleep here...but this was shortly before we left to go home.) :)
Have a great Saturday afternoon/evening!

babies

Keatin got to learn ALL about babies last night at her Big Brother/Big Sister class at the hospital in Ames. Josh and I observed the whole time, and she did SO good! Keatin made a bib for the baby, got to practice holding the baby, learned how to change the baby's diaper, and even got a tour of the Birthways floor/nursery where she will meet her baby. Let me tell you - she is going to be one great big sister! Josh took a few pics on his phone...

Keatin's turn at changing the baby's diaper...

Learning how to safely hold the baby...

And who knows...maybe Baby Barber will look like this! :)

Or maybe he/she will look more like this... :)
Leave me a comment if you can guess who these 2 cuties are! :)

Aunt Jen and Uncle Joey are here for the ISU/Nebraska football game tomorrow (I am sure there will be pictures to follow...). Keatin was BEYOND excited to see them...hard to get her to go to bed...which BTW, she hasn't slept in her bed for a week...she sleeps on the floor, snuggled up against the gate in her doorway...it is a fun, new phase we are going through at our house...I am open to any suggestions. :)

halloween with jack

Last post of Halloween pics - I promise!

Saturday night, we headed over to Nevada to trick-or-treat with Jack, the Tiger. :) Again, Keatin had a blast...and I think Jack enjoyed himself as well...or at least he didn't cry! :)

Phew - I am glad Halloween is over!

Ahh...the things we make our kids do! :) I would LOVE to read their minds while we were taking this picture...

[trick-or-treating in ames]

We spent Friday night trick-or-treating around our neighborhood in Ames. It was LOVELY weather and G & G Barber even came down to join us! Keatin was a "pro" at the trick-or-treating business by the end of the night...she would say "trick-or-treat" and "thank you" at every door...and would GLADLY grab candy out of bowls when people let her. :) We walked around for an hour, and could only convince her at the very end to get in the stroller...she was one pooped little skunk!

As I was uploading all these pictures, I couldn't help but think back to the last 2 years of Keatin and Halloween. :)

2008 - Keatin as a cat

2009 - Keatin as Piglet

2010 - Keatin as a skunk/"kunk"

Out and about...on the hunt for some candy!

Under the "pider" with daddy... (I don't think it is really a spider, but that is what Keatin calls it). :)

The Barber 3...or 3.5 (counting Baby Barber)...or 3.75 (counting Crimson)??? :)

The pirate ship that some guy in our neighborhood built... We have been watching its growth over the last month or so when we take our nightly walks. :)

Getting ready to head home...we have a full bucket of candy!

Crimson was a sweet, black dog for Halloween. :)

Gorgeous sunset as we headed home!

Halloween Fun @ Jessica's House

Pictures really give a true picture of how much kids change in a year! Do you remember the Halloween pictures from Jessica's house last year??? I STILL laugh at them - take a look!

Fast forward one year... Same group of kids (with the addition of one princess, Lilly). Keatin LOVES her friends at Jessica's house...and talks about them all the time. Looks like they had another fun day celebrating Halloween! (Thanks Jessica for taking & sharing the pics...they make me laugh!) :)

friends

I have a lot to post about, and will see what I have time to get done on this Monday after Halloween...

But before all the Halloween fun...just wanted to share with all who read our blog...we have some good friends (Bryan & Erika) who graduated from NWMSU with Josh - they live in KC...they have a son Parker (who is 2 months older than Keatin). Anyways, please click here to learn more about their family.

They have recently passed an adoption home study, and are waiting and praying for someone to choose them as the adoptive parents for their child. As Erika put it, they are reaching out to everyone to get their profile out to as many people as possible...in hopes of finding a baby...and you never know who might know somebody that knows somebody. :)

When you have a minute, take the time to read their information...and say some prayers that someone chooses these 2 wonderful people as adoptive parents!
